Cooks working the line in the El Fuego kitchen

A tiny kitchen with a very loud plancha.

El Fuego started in 2016 as a single taco cart in Kensington Market. We nixtamalize our own corn, grind it fresh, and press every tortilla to order. The al pastor turns on a real trompo by the window, and the salsas are made from scratch before the doors open.

It is fast, it is loud, and it is meant to be eaten hot. That is exactly why we built pickup ordering, so your bag is ready the minute you walk in.

Pick it. We cook it. Grab it hot.

Tap the crowd favourites to add them, choose a pickup time, and we will text you when your bag is ready on Augusta.

The al pastor is the best in the city, full stop. Ordered for pickup on my lunch break and it was ready in twelve minutes, still hot on Augusta.

That charred pineapple on the pastor taco is unreal. I have tried half the taquerias downtown and El Fuego is the one I keep coming back to.

Baja fish taco with the chipotle crema is a religious experience. The batter stays crisp even in the takeout box, which never happens.

Elote here ruined every other street corn for me. Grilled properly, loaded with cotija and lime. I order three every single time.

Vegan Hongos taco is packed with flavour, and they actually cooked it on a separate part of the grill when I asked. Genuinely thoughtful.

Grew up on tacos in Guadalajara and these come close to home. The tortillas taste like real nixtamal, not the packaged stuff.

The michelada with the chili rim plus a carnitas platter is my perfect Friday. Loud, colourful, fast, exactly what a taqueria should be.

Dinner for two

Placed a big group order for the office and every box was labelled and correct. Fed fourteen people and everyone raved about the carnitas.

Horchata is the real thing, cinnamon forward and not too sweet. Comes ice cold every time. I get one with every pickup.

Chile relleno was stuffed with three cheeses and drowning in roasted tomato salsa. Comfort food that still feels handmade.

The colours, the music, the salsa bar. It is a party in a tiny room. Grab tacos and stand at the window counter, best twenty dollars downtown.

Saturday lunch

Ordered pickup through the site and got a text the second it was bagged. No waiting around, no cold food. This is how it should work.

Enchiladas verdes with that tomatillo salsa are unbelievable. Portion is huge and it travels well. My go to comfort order.

The salsas alone are worth the trip. Mild verde for the kids, chile de arbol for me. They box them separately without being asked twice.

Carne asada taco with a squeeze of lime is my whole personality now. Fast, fresh, and the plancha is going non stop behind the counter.

Best late night bite in Kensington. Ordered ahead, walked in, walked out with a hot bag of tacos in under five minutes. Flawless.

Late night pickup

Before you order.

01

How does pickup ordering work?

Pick your tacos, plates and drinks on the site, choose a pickup window, and drop your name and number. We start cooking when you hit send and text you the moment your bag is ready at the counter on Augusta Avenue.

02

How long is the wait for a pickup order?

Most orders are packed and ready in 12 to 18 minutes. On a busy Friday night it can stretch to 25, so if you are in a rush choose a later window and we will time it to the minute.

03

Are there vegetarian and vegan tacos?

Yes. The Hongos taco, elote and charro beans can be made vegan, and we cook them on a separate side of the plancha. Just add a note with your order and the kitchen will keep them apart.

04

Is everything made fresh, and how spicy is it?

Tortillas are pressed from nixtamal corn and the salsas are made every morning. Heat runs from the mild salsa verde to a smoky chile de arbol. Every order comes with mild by default and you can ask for the hot stuff on the side.

05

Where are you and is there parking?

We are on Augusta Avenue in Kensington Market, Toronto. The area is car free on summer weekends, so most guests walk, bike or take the 510 streetcar to Spadina and stroll in. There is a Green P lot one block east on Bellevue.

06

Do you cater larger group orders?

We build taco boxes and platters for offices, parties and film sets across downtown Toronto. Send a group order 24 hours ahead through the pickup form and we will confirm timing and quantities by phone.
