Garden design
Planting plans drawn for the way you actually live outside, from a shaded Cabbagetown courtyard to a full backyard reworking. Native perennials that hold their colour past the first frost.
Design, stonework and season-long care for backyards across the city, built by one crew who knows how things grow in a Toronto winter.
We work east to the Beaches and west to the Junction, on gardens from postage-stamp courtyards to full property reworks.
Everything starts underground. We test the soil, read the light, and choose plants that want to be where we put them. The first season is roots. By the third, the bed has closed over and the garden is doing the work itself.
No subcontractors, no upsell. The same crew designs it, builds it and keeps it living.

Planting plans drawn for the way you actually live outside, from a shaded Cabbagetown courtyard to a full backyard reworking. Native perennials that hold their colour past the first frost.

Flagstone, natural steppers and dry-laid retaining walls that sit level through a Toronto freeze-thaw winter. Built to be walked on for twenty years, not two.

Overseeding, aeration and honest soil work so the grass fills in thick without a chemical program. We test first, then feed only what the ground is short on.

Spring cut-backs, summer pruning and a proper fall clean-up on a schedule you can forget about. One crew, the same faces, every visit.
Before
AfterA patchy strip of lawn became a level stone courtyard wrapped in shade planting.
Before
AfterWe set a circular patio off the kitchen and framed it with a border that blooms into October.
Before
AfterBare soil at the first visit, a self-sustaining native bed one full season on.

Soft first green in spring, a border in full bloom by July, structure that still reads in October. We plant for the whole arc of the year, so there is always something coming into its own outside your window.

Verdant began in 2003 when our founder, a horticulturist by training, kept getting asked to fix the gardens his neighbours had given up on. Twenty-two years later we are still a small, hands-in-the-dirt outfit. We keep the crew small on purpose so the person who quotes your garden is the person planting it.
We plant mostly native and hardy species, build with real stone, and stand behind the work through the first winter and beyond. If a plant does not take, we come back.

What Toronto says
“Verdant reworked our narrow Cabbagetown back garden and somehow made it feel twice the size. The flagstone path is dead level and the shade plants have filled in beautifully.”
Marguerite D.
Cabbagetown, garden redesign
“They tested our soil before quoting anything, which no other company bothered to do. Two seasons later the lawn is thick enough that the kids play on it barefoot.”
Priya S.
Leslieville, lawn restoration
“Our old retaining wall was leaning into the neighbour's yard. Verdant rebuilt it dry-laid and it has not shifted a millimetre through two winters.”
Tom & Elaine W.
High Park, retaining wall
“Same crew every visit, always on the day they say. The fall clean-up alone is worth the seasonal plan. No surprises on the invoice.”
Devon A.
The Beaches, seasonal maintenance
“We wanted native perennials that would actually survive a Toronto winter and still look good in October. Their planting plan delivered exactly that.”
Hana K.
Roncesvalles, native garden
“The circular patio they laid off our kitchen has become the room we use most in summer. Craftsmanship you can see up close.”
Michael O.
Riverdale, patio build
“Honest about what our sloped yard could and could not do. They talked us out of a feature we wanted and were completely right.”
Sandra L.
Forest Hill, full landscape
“Quote came with a real drawing, not a number scribbled on a card. Everything was priced the way it was described. Rare these days.”
Ken T.
Danforth, garden design
“They pruned our overgrown cedars back into shape without butchering them, then set us up on a maintenance visit twice a season. Effortless since.”
Amara N.

Straight answers on timing, coverage and how we stand behind the work. Anything else, ask on the quote form and we will reply the same day.
After a walkthrough we usually book design work two to four weeks out, and seasonal maintenance can often start the same week. Larger stone builds get scheduled around the freeze, so spring and late summer fill up first.
Design and planning carry on all winter, and we run snow-safe fall clean-ups into December. Planting and stonework pause once the ground freezes, then pick straight back up as the soil opens in spring.
Yes. We carry full liability insurance and every crew member is WSIB covered, so nothing on your property lands on you. We can send proof of coverage before the first shovel goes in.
We lean heavily on native and hardy perennials chosen for the light and soil your yard actually has. It means the garden fills in without a chemical program and still looks alive in October.
We work east to the Beaches and Scarborough Bluffs, west to the Junction and Etobicoke, and everything in the core between. If you are just outside that ring, ask and we will tell you honestly.
We stand behind our planting through the first full year. If something we put in the ground does not establish, we come back and replace it, no charge and no argument.

Send a few details and we will arrange a walkthrough, usually within the week. Quotes come with a real plan, not a number on the back of a card.
