Fine-line and micro-realism
Delicate script, botanicals, and single-needle detail that stays crisp as it ages. The style we sweat every millimeter of.
A private, appointment-only studio for fine-line, blackwork, and considered cover-ups. We start with a real conversation, then draw something you will still love in twenty years.
One branch, drawn by one hand. No stencil traced twice, no flash pulled off a wall. Every thorn earns its place.
Four artists, one bench each, no assembly line. Every piece starts as a custom drawing built around your body, never off a flash sheet.

Delicate script, botanicals, and single-needle detail that stays crisp as it ages. The style we sweat every millimeter of.
Saturated, high-contrast pieces built to read from across the room and hold their weight for life.

Honest assessments first. If we can save the old piece we tell you, and if we cannot, we design around it.

Multi-session projects with kept reference notes, so the style never drifts between visits.

Implant-grade titanium, single-use needles, and aftercare you actually leave understanding.

Since 2014
Blackthorn started in a back room off Ossington with one bench and a hard rule, never tattoo an idea you have not sat with. A decade later that rule has not moved. We stay appointment-only so the studio is calm, the schedule is honest, and nobody waits on a stool while an artist splits attention.
You get one artist from the first sketch to the last line. They learn how your skin takes ink, they keep your reference notes, and they treat a memorial piece with the weight it deserves.
Custom only
Every drawing built for one body.
Single-use
Needles opened in front of you.
Real ink on real skin, photographed after it has settled.

“Booked a consult for a cover-up of an old ankle piece I hated. Mara redrew it three times until the linework hid every trace of the original. Four hours, barely felt it. The studio is spotless.”
Priya Anand
Fine-line cover-up
“The consult alone sold me. They actually pushed back on my original idea and suggested a cleaner composition. Glad I listened. The piece wraps my elbow perfectly.”

“I brought in a rough sketch of my grandmother's handwriting and they turned it into the most delicate script piece. They scanned it, cleaned the lines, and it sits above my collarbone like it was always there.”
Grace Okonkwo
Script memorial piece
“Detailed geometric back piece across four sessions. Never once rushed. They played my music, kept the room quiet, and the symmetry is dead-on. Worth every dollar.”
Ben Ferreira
Geometric back piece
“Got matching fine-line pieces with my sister. They took the time to make each one slightly different so they read as a pair, not a photocopy. Thoughtful work.”

“Small dagger on the forearm, walk-in consult on a Saturday. They fit me in for the following Tuesday and the linework is razor sharp. Easy to find, easy to book.”

“Got a full forearm blackwork piece here after two other shops quoted me a rush job. Blackthorn made me come in and talk it through first. No pressure to book same day. Healed clean, no touch-up needed.”

“Came in for a nostril piercing and ended up booking a fine-line consult too. Piercing was quick, jewelry is proper titanium, and the aftercare was printed and explained.”

“Booked through the site, got a confirmation and a deposit link within the hour. Professional from the first email. The space feels more like a gallery than a shop.”

“Walked in for a consult about a botanical sternum piece. They explained placement pain honestly instead of downplaying it, which I appreciated. Booked the same week.”
Yuki Tanaka

“I sat for a five hour session on my ribs and the artist checked my comfort the whole way, offered breaks, kept me hydrated. The result is a fine-line snake I stare at daily.”

“My first tattoo and I was terrified. The artist walked me through every step, showed me the stencil placement in the mirror twice, and checked in constantly. A small hummingbird on my wrist, and I love it.”

“Second session on a half sleeve. Consistent artist, consistent quality, and they keep detailed reference notes between visits so the style never drifts. Rare to find that.”

“Reworked a faded traditional piece from a decade ago. They rebuilt the black, punched up the shading, and it looks new. Honest about what could and could not be saved.”
Aisha Rahman

“The hygiene is the real story here. Fresh needles opened in front of me, single-use everything, and the artist re-gloved twice mid-session. That kind of care is why I keep coming back.”

“Came in skeptical after a bad experience elsewhere. Blackthorn redrew the entire concept, no attitude, no upsell. Left with something I am actually proud to show off.”

Blackthorn is appointment-only so the room stays calm and your artist is never splitting attention. Walk in any time to book a free consult in person, and we will send you the next open dates within a business day.
Custom work is quoted after your consult, once we know the size, placement, and detail. Small fine-line pieces start around 180 dollars, and larger multi-session projects are booked by the session. You get the full number before any needle touches skin.
Yes. Cover-ups and rework are one of our specialties, and we give you an honest assessment first. If the old piece can be saved we tell you, and if it cannot, we design something new that hides it completely.
Every needle is single-use and opened in front of you, all surfaces are wrapped and changed between clients, and our artists re-glove during longer sessions. We are fully licensed by Toronto Public Health and our inspection record is on the wall.
Eat a proper meal beforehand, stay hydrated, sleep well, and wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the placement area. Skip alcohol for 24 hours before. Bring valid government ID showing you are 18 or older.
A deposit secures your date and goes toward the final cost of your tattoo. Consults themselves are always free, so you only put money down once you have met your artist and decided to move ahead.

Consults are free
Come in, talk it through, see the space. No deposit until you decide to book a date.
